National programme for development of sports

For the first time in history, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports will work together to create a joint national programme for the development of sports. The Ministry of Sports would like to state that the Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardane and Minister of Sports, Mahindananda Aluthgamage met at the Ministry of Education recently to decide on implementing a sports development policy in schools.

The Ministry of Sports is implementing a National Sports Policy targeting the 2018 Commonwealth Games which is expected to be held in Sri Lanka. According to this Sports Policy, the Ministry hopes to develop the sports in schools and identify talented athletes from school.
