'Opposing public privileges is an HR violation'
Any opposition to a decision to grant privileges to the public is a
violation of human rights, said Prime Minister D M Jayaratne.
Prime Minister presenting a certificate to a member of the
Human Rights People’s Services Foundation.
He said so at the certificates awarding ceremony of the Human Rights
People's Services Foundation held on May 31 at the Colombo Foundation
He pointed out that opposition by certain sections to the proposed
private sector pension scheme is also a violation of human rights.
The Prime Minister added that it was ridiculous that powerful
countries were keen on finding human rights violations in small
countries like Sri Lanka while human rights are being violated in their

"We showed the world during the humanitarian operation how the Sri
Lankan army ensured civilians the right to live by providing them
security from terrorists," the Prime Minister pointed out.
This function was also attended by the Commissioner of the Human
Rights Commission former IGP Anandarajah.
