Public awareness on Darusman Report
Galle district Intellectuals' Forum comprising leading professionals
in the district has decided to launch a string of programmes to protest
against and to educate the public on the controversial Darusman report.
At a special general meeting held recently under the patronage of
Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya at her official residence,
the forum unanimously adopted a resolution to denounce the report
describing it as a deliberate attempt to hamper the robust government
mission of reconciliation and resettlement under the farsighted vision
of President Mahinda Rajapaksa following the victory over the world's
most brutal terrorists.
The programmes include public seminars and workshops, distribution of
handouts, a poster campaign and protest movements.
The first public seminar will be held on June 9 at the Galle
Municipal Pavilion at 3.00 pm.
New office bearers were also unanimously elected at the meeting as
follows: Hony President: Lalith U Gamaage (attorney-at-law), Hony
Secretary Consultant: Wasantha Devasiri, Hony Treasurer: Rohan De Silva
Operation Manager People's Bank, Hikkaduwa, Convenor: Anura Sanaviratne,
(attorney-at-law) and committee members: Dr W Wimalasena, Security
Executive Sunil Gurugamage, Ranjan Peiris, Accountant Sunil Poddiwala
and Dr Mrs Upeksha Liyanage.
