Chinthana tests positive
Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Chinthana
Geethal Vidanage has been tested positive for a banned substance at
the Asian Weightlifting Championships which was worked off in China.
The 29 year old former schoolboy of Royal College Polonnaruwa was
placed fourth in the 69 kg weight category event after he lifted a
total of 132 kg in the snatch and 167 kg in the clean and jerk event
category.

Manju calls it a day
Sri Lanka’s best hope for an Olympic medal in
2012 Manjula Wanniarachchi in a rush of unfolding events yesterday
announced his decision to retire from boxing. Wanniarachchi’s talent
was spotted while he was a 19 year old schoolboy from Vidyartha
College, Kandy and while representing the country during the 1999
SAF Games in Katmandu.

Boost for Lankans before the big match
The Sri Lankan cricketers turned the form book
upside down, when they came from behind to slap a 38-run defeat on
the England Lions on the final day of the four-day game here on
Sunday. The Sri Lankans thus gained their second victory which
should give them the much needed confidence to front up to England
and not let them have their own way. Of course the home team will go
out favourites, playing at home and after their Ashes success
against Australia.
