Pakistan expands nuclear arsenal
Pakistan: A recent report published in the prominent US
Newsweek magazine indicates that Pakistan is "aggressively accelerating
construction of reactors" at the Khushab nuclear site, about 140 miles
south of Islamabad. American nuclear experts say Pakistan is also
greatly expanding plutonium production for its nuclear weapons programme.
They also claim that Pakistan's nuclear production may even surpass
France's nuclear stockpile.
Eric Edelman, American under-secretary of defence during the George W
Bush administration, recently said, "You're talking about Pakistan even
potentially passing France at some point. That's extraordinary."France
is ranked as the world's fourth nuclear power with 290 nuclear warheads.
Pakistani officials say about 70,000 people are now engaged in the
country's nuclear industry. Press TV |
