Freedom for 2,600 prisoners
Authorities are making arrangements to release
2600 prisoners tomorrow (Vesak Poya day) to commemorate the 2,600th
Sambuddathva Jayanthi. Prison Reforms and Rehabilitation Ministry
Secretary A.Dissanayake said that prisoners serving short prison
terms for minor offenses, those unable to pay small fines, those who
are over 75 and those who have conducted themselves in an exemplary
manner during their prison term would be considered for the general
pardon.

Bogus foreign job agent arrested
Over 100 people swindled:
A foreign employment agent who swindled large
amounts of money from over 100 people with the promise of obtaining
lucrative jobs in Italy was arrested by sleuths of the Sri Lanka
Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).
