Pietersen falls on return

England batsman Kevin Pietersen made 30 for Surrey against a Cambridge student side on Wednesday in his first match since a hernia injury forced him to return home early from the World Cup.

Pietersen hit two sixes and two four before his perceived weakness against left-arm spin saw him edge teenager Zafar Ansari, on Surrey's books but playing for the university side, to slip.

Ansari took five for 33 against what was, skipper Pietersen apart, effectively a Surrey 2nd XI. AFP
