Pardon for prisoners

The Prison Reforms and Rehabilitation Ministry is planning to release a large number of prisoners to mark the 2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthi. Prisoners serving short prison terms for minor offences, those unable to pay small fines and those who have conducted themselves in an exemplary manner during their prison term, are to be considered for the general pardon.

Teen with grenade nabbed in bus

A 19-year-old girl travelling to Colombo and her father were arrested by the Galewela Police on Saturday evening for possession of a grenade. A Wishwa Nandan and his daughter V. Ugedinee residing in Palavuththu, Trincomalee were arrested in a bus travelling from Trincomalee to Colombo.

Three arrested for selling stolen goods

The Anuradhapura Police said that they had arrested three suspects on suspicion of selling and helping to sell a consignment of items valued at over one million rupees they had stolen from a wholesale store at Harischandra Mawatha, Anuradhapura maintained by a leading company.
