LankaeNews journalist arrested

Kirindiwela Police on an arrest warrant taken from the Pugoda Magistrate Aravinda Perera arrested a journalist attached to the LankaeNews website following charges levelled against him for ‘contempt of court’.

The arrest was carried out at LankaeNews office yesterday.

The arrested journalist has been identified as one who telecast news in the LankaeNews website.

He had prepared a news telecast in the LankaeNews website allegedly defaming the honour of the court.

The Magistrate directed the Police to make the arrest when prosecutors urged court that the journalist had interfered with the court proceedings through his publication.

The arrest was made when police obtained a statement on the offence.

The suspect will be produced before the Pugoda Magistrate today.
