Samurdhi officer wanted for fraud

Nawalapitiya Police are investigating to arrest a Samurdhi officer
who had defrauded over Rs 5 million on the pretext of providing jobs,
houses and land to several unsuspecting persons including members of
Ranaviru families and fled the area.
Police said this Samurdhi animator was a resident in Weralugashinna.
The Samurdhi animator has been an office-bearer of the Rural
Development Society in the area and he had pretended to be a political
authority in the area so as to cheat various people.
More than 100 complaints have been received by the Police against him
for defrauding people promising jobs, lands and houses non-repayment of
loans, and issuing dishonoured cheques for various transactions.
Investigations are continuing directed by Gampola SSP Roshan
Fernando, SP B Wimaladasa and ASPs A Devapriya and Chulani Weeraratne. |
