Samurdhi officer wanted for fraud

Nawalapitiya Police are investigating to arrest a Samurdhi officer who had defrauded over Rs 5 million on the pretext of providing jobs, houses and land to several unsuspecting persons including members of Ranaviru families and fled the area.

Police said this Samurdhi animator was a resident in Weralugashinna.

The Samurdhi animator has been an office-bearer of the Rural Development Society in the area and he had pretended to be a political authority in the area so as to cheat various people.

More than 100 complaints have been received by the Police against him for defrauding people promising jobs, lands and houses non-repayment of loans, and issuing dishonoured cheques for various transactions.

Investigations are continuing directed by Gampola SSP Roshan Fernando, SP B Wimaladasa and ASPs A Devapriya and Chulani Weeraratne.
