Three injured in collision

Two vans collided near the Airport Protection Fence at Katunayake on January 26, 2011 and the driver of one van and two others where injured in the accident and admitted to the Negombo hospital. A Korean national and his wife were also among the injured. The wife of the Korean succumbed to her injuries later. Police are conducting further investigations.

Two nabbed with Ganja

A lorry-driver and his assistant were taken into police custody with 34 parcels of Ganja weighing 1 kg each. A van which followed the lorry for (protection) was also nabbed by the Wellawaya Police. The suspects were due to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate.

One succumbs to injuries in accident

A three-wheeler accident took place on January 24, 2011 at Hapugala in the Kalegana-Wakwella road where two pedestrians were injured. Two persons were admitted to the Karapitiya hospital where one person died. The dead was Millavithanachchi Viv Wijetilake (49), a resident of Hapugala. The driver of the three-wheeler was taken into police custody and produced in Courts. Poddala police are conducting further investigations.

Motor cyclist succumbs to injuries

A motor-cycle had knocked against a light post at Gal Handiya in the Pallama Police area on (27) and the cyclist injured was admitted to the Chilaw hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The dead was identified as Thewarapperuma Arachchilage Champika Siri Nimal of Kalukele, Pallama. Pallama police are investigating.
