St Sylvester's College were dismissed for 149 but have struck back in
having their opponents Trinity College struggling at 10 for 2 on the
first day of their inter-school cricket match which began at the
Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy yesterday.
The Sylvestrians who took first lease of the wicket were struggling
at 74 for 7 at one stage but their tail wagged through some dogged
batting by Dushan Malalasena who made 47 under trying conditions and
another tail-ender Sumedha Dissanayake made 35 and this pair put on an
useful stand for the eighth wicket which boosted Sylvestrians' total to
149 all out occupying the crease for 71 overs.
Medium pacer Janishka Premasinghe bowled best to capture 4 for 45
while Alwin Fernando 3 for 10 and leg-spinner and skipper Akila
Jayasundera took 2 for 25. At close the Trinitians were not too happily
placed at 10 for 2.
