UNP, JVP scared to face another Presidential Poll - CP Governor
Sanjaya Asela Maturata
The UNP and the JVP opposed the 18th Amendment to the Constitution
mainly due to their fear in confronting President Mahinda Rajapaksa at
another Presidential Election rather than their desire to protect
democracy and sovereignty of the people, said Central Province Governor
Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.
Addressing a press conference held at the Governor’s Office in Kandy
on Monday Governor Kobbekaduwa said it was most disgusting to see these
two parties which tried to foist a dictatorship by fielding a common
candidate at this last Presidential Election accusing the incumbent
President of trying to establish a dictatorship through the 18th
Amendment to the Constitution.
The Governor said the 18th Amendment was a prudent step taken for the
country’s future progress and prosperity.
It was also most Salutary to see the 18th Amendment taking steps to
make the Commissions proposed by the 17th Amendment more people
friendly. The Governor also thanked the too Mahanayake Theras of the
Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters for supporting the 18th Amendment without
believing Opposition’s false propaganda.
