Special program needed to strengthen trust between police, public
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne highlighted the need to initiate a
program to enhance trust between police and the public.

General of Police, Mahinda Balasooriya at the official residence of the
Prime Minister yesterday.
It is heartrending that although the police have made a major
contribution to ensure the safety of the public the due recognition has

measures to launch a program to enhance relationship between the public
and police. In connection with this program one police officer is
already assigned to each Grama Niladhari division.

knowledge of Tamil among the police staff and special attention is given
to officers assigned to the North and east.
Nearly 600 police officers are given Tamil lessons and it is the aim
