Agri Ministry to deal with corrupt officers

Officers involved in corruptions will not be pardoned, they will be dealt with disciplinary actions, said Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

The Minister who made an inspection tour of paddy lands in the Anuradhapura District Thursday said he had instructed the Agriculture Ministry Secretary to hold a formal inquiry in connection with farmers' difficulties at Mahakanadarawa Weva.

Answering a question raised by a journalist regarding difficulties encountered by the onion farmers, the Minister said the officers of the private company that imported onion seeds were summoned to the Ministry and questioned.

Action will be taken to pay compensation to the farmers for the damage caused to their crops.

North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Provincial Agriculture Minister K.H. Nandasena and Ministry Secretary K.E. Karunathilake also participated.
