Bomb kills one

One person was killed and two others injured by a mortar bomb explosion when they attempted to pierce a king coconut using an unexploded mortar bomb on Wednesday evening in the Kalpitiya area.

Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said three residents from Palliwasalthurai, Kalpitiya after plucking king coconuts at a coconut grove used an unexploded mortar bomb to cut the king coconut.

He said the initial investigation revealed that the unexploded mortar was found by the victim at the Air Force training ground in Kalpitiya.Kalpitiya police are investigating.
