Ag-Biz East a success
The Ag-Biz East Agricultural Trade Exhibition was held recently at
the Hindu Cultural Centre, Trincomalee. The two day exhibition was the
first of this kind to be held in Trincomalee after many decades.
At the Ag-Biz East Agricultural Trade Exhibition
The response from the Agri-business companies as well as from the
farmers towards this exhibition was tremendous said Agri Business
council Secretary Rohitha Nanayakkara. Fertilizer, agro chemicals, local
and imported hybrid seeds, agricultural machinery and equipment,
irrigation systems, tissue cultured plants, dairy products, fisheries
products, solar power systems and many more agricultural products were
displayed at this event. More than fifty agri-business companies
participated for this exhibition. Farmers were able to get the knowledge
on new technology after more than three decades. Nanayakkara said that
the exhibition has provided a great opportunity to promote relations
between the producers and importers of agricultural products, the
provincial Agriculture Ministry and farmers. Ag-Biz East was jointly
organized by the National Agri Business Council and the USAID funded
CORE Project and endorsed by the Provincial Agriculture Ministry.
The Eastern Province Governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama was the
chief guest. Agriculture Provincial Minister Dr Navarathnaraja , USAJD
Mission Director Rebecca Cohn and Melani Shultz of CORE project also
attended the exhibition. National Agri business council Chairman Asoka
Gopallawa delivered the welcome address.

Farmer Awards were sponsored by Hayleys Agro Products Ltd. Best four
farmers of the Trincomalee district were awarded pries.
Farmer training classes on safe and responsible use of pesticides,
animal husbandry, fruit and vegetable cultivation, cash crops and
fisheries were conducted concurrently with the exhibition. A large
number of farmers from Mutur, Gomarankadawala, Seruwila and Kinniya and
from the Padaviya area attended the exhibition.
