Kandy District - CP’s women’s hockey champions

At half time Kandy District led 2-0. It turned out to be a grueling as both teams reputed for their stick work started off aggressively and some very good move were seen at the early stages of the game.

In the 16th minute the Kandy women drew first blood when centre forward Chathurika Wijesuriya got past two opposing defenders and took play to the top of the semi circle and when the defence converged she sent a short past to the well positioned left extreme Maneesha Dissanayake who sounded the boards. Ten minutes later Kandy women stickers sounded the boards again off a penalty corner centre forward Chathurika Wijesuriya took the hit and left extreme Maneesha Dissanayake collecting the ball pushed it in an attempt to score which was stopped by Matale’s custodian. But left inside Madushani Jayanetti scored off the rebound.

The second half sew the Matale team making some good attempts to break Kandy’s defence to gain control of the match.

But a well fortified defence put up by Kandy thwarted all their attempts and helped them to retain their two goal lead which they gained in the initial half. Indika Jayawardena and S.N. Jayasinghe umpired.
