Self employment projects for women

The Child Development and Women's Empowerment Ministry will take speedy measures to uplift the economic standards of women who are living in areas which were badly affected by LTTE terrorism. This will be done through the various self employment programs, the Child Development and Women's Empowerment Minister Tissa Karaliyadda said..

The Child Development and Women's Empowerment Ministry will take these initiatives in line with the economic development program introduced for families below the poverty line.

Several self employment projects have already being implemented in the Madawachchiya, Kebithigollewa, Batticaloa and Trincomalee areas. Under the livestock development program, 11 families in Rajanganaya in the Anuradhapura district were given milch cows.

The Ministry will assist family units start projects to uplift their living standards by improving their economic conditions. Child Development and Women's Empowerment officers attached to the Divisional Secretariat offices will provide the necessary advice and guidance in this regard, the Minister added.

The Ministry will financially assist certain families to enter the livestock development sector while some will be assisted to take up agriculture. In addition, a great number of families will be provided assistance to begin self-employment projects.

"We have to identify the capabilities of each family unit.

Then only we can introduce the ideal way for the particular family unit. For instance there are families who have the knowledge in the agriculture sector while certain families are inclined towards self employment. After identifying the capabilities of each family they will be advised to enter into the most suitable path," Minister Karaliyadda said.
