Orange helps Kegalle Hospital's surgery theatre

Orange Electric Managing Director Kushan Kodituwakku and Chairperson Thilaka Kodituwakku at the inauguration.

Orange Electric, completed yet another chapter in its mission to shed light upon those lives in darkness with the successful inauguration of the Eye Surgery Theatre at the Base Hospital, Kegalle.

This Rs 3.5 million project comes under the company's flagship CSR program 'Light for you - Sight for me', and was initiated and completed on an invitation by the Health and Nutrition Ministry under its 'Vision 2020' program.

Prior to this, the people of Kegalle faced many difficulties with regards to eye care. Due to high demands and limited resources, eye patients were usually allocated three hours per week for surgical procedures at the General Surgery Theatre.

Some patients were known to have been on the waiting list for more than 10 months before they could have their eyes surgically attended to.

This is why the new Eye Surgery Theatre is such a blessing for the people in the area and the vicinity.

'Light for you - Sight for me' is an achievement not only for Orange Electric, but also to its distributors, dealers, not to mention their consumers. With each CFL bulb purchased, Rs 5 is contributed towards the fund. People's generosity from all corners of the country has enabled the company to contribute towards a vast number of activities of the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped Vision 2020 program under Health and Nutrition Ministry, and other eye care related programs in the country. Furthermore, individual requests for help with cataract operations have also been given due consideration. To date, 'Light for you - Sight for me' has helped almost 1,500 cataract patients see light in their lives, when all hope seemed lost.

Health and Nutrition Ministry, Public Health Deputy Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Kegalle Base Hospital, Eye Surgeon, Dr. Y.M.S. Herath, and Hospital Director Dr. Lakshman Gamlath were present at the inauguration. Chairperson Thilaka Kodituwakku, Managing Director Kushan Kodituwakku and CEO Kamil Hussein represented Orange Electric.
