President tells Colombo based foreign diplomats:

National security prime concern

Democracy, human freedom will be protected:

President Rajapaksa yesterday said that national security is the Government’s prime concern and the Government takes every possible effort to ensure that terrorism would not raise its ugly head on Sri Lanka soil again. Addressing the Colombo based foreign diplomats at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday President Rajapaksa said the Government’s policy on democracy and human freedom remains unchanged.

Army evacuates stranded devotees

The Sri Lanka Army evacuated devotees stranded due to floods caused by heavy rains at the historic Somawathiya area in Polonnaruwa, by deploying military vehicles. Nearly 400,000 devotees who came in around 30,000 vehicles to participate in religious observances at this Buddhist site on May 8 and 9 were trapped as a result of floods.
