Opposition Leader, UNP bankrupt

The Opposition leader and UNP are politically unstable and bankrupt. Ranil Wickremesinghe is asking for affidavits from his candidates promising not to leave the party, Minister of Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services and the General Secretary of SLFP Maithreepala Sirisena said.

Ninety nine nominations rejected

Thirty nominations of recognized political parties and 69 nominations of independent political parties for the General Election 2010 had been rejected as their submissions were against the regulations of the election Act, the Elections Department announced.
