Posts Minister reiterates need for strong development plan

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Nandana Gunatillake said in 1989 when the JVP was suppressed and banned, only a few others including himself, stood by the party to safeguard its mission.

There were many who deserted the party during that time, such as Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Vijitha Herath and many others. They left the party deserting its policies and agenda, he said.

He was speaking at the inaugural meeting held in Kalutara on February 21 subsequent to taking up appointment as Kalutara District Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP). However today, claiming they are the leaders of the party, these people are taking the party to its downfall, the Minister said. He added: “I left the party and joined the SLFP as I realized their mistake and the wrong path they are taking.
