GHS take inter-school Chess title

The Girls High-School Chess Team won the Inter-School Chess
Championship convincingly, scoring a total of 27 points out of a
possible 30 points. They won all five matches in this five round Swiss
system tournament which was conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri
Lanka at Royal College, Colombo recently.
The outstanding Girls High School team consisted of Dinushki
Premanath, Irindu Basnayake, Navodya Selvaratnam, Dilshani Ranasinghe,
Jeewanthi Ratnayake, Janani Nanayakkara and Yashmi Lamawansa. Maliyadeva
Balika Vidyalaya emerged runner up with 20.5 points and Ever Winners
Chess Club was third with 17.5 points.

Chess championship
The Wayamba university 'A' team consisting of Nuwan Liyanage, WSN
Chandraratne, WLC Chandraratne, AMCB Alahakoon, WSVK Koggala, HB
Dassanayake and CD Manawasekara emerged champions at the Finals of the
Inter Club 'B' Chess Championship conducted by the Chess Federation of
Sri Lanka from Royal College, Colombo recently. They scored a total of
22.5 points out of 30 games after a close battle.
Reborn Youth Chess Club won the second place with 20 points and Black
and Gold Chess Club won the third place with 19 points. The top two
teams of the Inter-Club 'B' Chess Championship will qualify to play in
the Super League Chess Championships next year. |
