Election law violations:

Police to take stern action

Police warned that stern action will be taken against election law violators and requested the public to assist the Police and Security Forces to hold a free and fair election. Over 68,000 police personnel have been deployed for election duties today, sources said.

Navy rescues drifting fishing trawler

Sri Lanka Navy’s offshore patrol vessel ‘Samudura’ rescued a multi-day fishing trawler which was drifting due to engine failure in the Northern deep seas on January 21.

No political pressure on CID

CID Director SSP M.K.D.W Amarasinghe said the CID was conducting all investigations impartially with no undue pressure or any political influence. Addressing the media yesterday at the Media Centre for National Security, SSP Amarasinghe rejected a statement by Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka at a rally in Galle on Saturday that a CID officer told him he (the officer) would remove his uniform and walk out of the CID office, if he was forced to carry out any investigation against Fonseka’s son-in-law Danuna Tilakaratne.
