Weapons found in Colombo: Ten arrested
The Special Task Force (STF) had arrested 10
suspects including a Chief Monk attached to a Colombo Temple and
recovered a large quantity of weapons, cash of Rs 200,000 and
several posters of Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka. Two T 56
weapons, 119 bullets, six Magazines, 56 SSG hand bombs, two cyanide
capsules, two security lamps, two smoke grenades. one micro pistol
and 41 9mm bullets were among the recovered items.

Navy refutes false charges
Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Rear Admiral
Thisara Samarasinghe yesterday refuted what he described as an
irresponsible news item which said that a Navy truck lorry (6284)
transporting illegal ballot boxes and ballot papers had been taken
into custody by the Kurunegala Police on January 23.

Two LTTE operatives sentenced in US
The Federal Courthouse in Brooklyn has sentenced
Sathajhan Sarachandran and Nadarasu Yogarasa to 26 and 14 years in
prison, respectively in connection with their efforts to purchase $
1 million worth of high powered weaponry for the LTTE, according to
a media release issued by the US Embassy in Colombo.

Rehabilitated LTTE cadres released
Nearly 56 LTTE members who had surrendered to
the Security Forces and were undergoing training at Senapura
Rehabilitation Camp, Welikanda were released yesterday.
