St. Joseph's College, Colombo were on top at the end of first day's
play in their inter-school cricket match against Trinity College which
began at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday. Having bowled out the
Lions for 118, the Josephians had replied strongly with 182 for 4
wickets at close. It was quite a refreshing performance by the Joes
after their debacle against Royal College last week.
Trinity were not comfortable against the pace of Chathuranga Kumara
(4 for 43) and Dinal Dhambarage (3 for 36) who had the Lions in trouble.
Opener Niroshan Dickwella was the top scorer with 24 and the Lions
folded up meekly for 118 in just 35.3 overs.
When the Josephians batted, S. Samarawickrema 40 (5 fours, 83 balls)
and Enrico Silva 71 not out, (9 fours, 151 balls) batted with
confidence. Later Jaan Jayasinghe too batted well to score 28 Left arm
spinner Aamil Anas has taken 2 for 40 so far.
Trinity College 118 all out in 35.3 overs (K. Wimalaweera 11,
Niroshan Dickwella 24, Shameera Wijesooriya 18, Keheliya Athukoda 20,
M.H.M. Sajid 14, Dinal Dhambarage 3 for 36, Chathuranga Kumara 4 for 43.
