Pay hike for private sector employees as well

The Commissioner General of Labour has been ordered to implement in all the Wages Boards of the private sector a salary increase with immediate effect parallel to the Rs. 2,500 granted to the State sector, on a special directive by Labour Relations and Manpower Minister Athauda Seneviratne.

This salary increase should be implemented in the case of all factory workers under the purview of the Board of Investment, as well, Labour Relations and Manpower Ministry, said in a release yesterday.

The Rs. 405 per day salary increase referred to in the Collective Agreement entered into between the Trade Unions of tea, rubber and plantation sectors and the Ceylon Employers’ Federation, has been ordered to be implemented in the case of workers of all other estates from January 15, 2010 as the Gazette Notification has already been issued.
