Upgrading of provincial road system

The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Finance and Planning Minister to receive SDR 66.1 million from the World Bank for the implementation of Provincial Road System Development Programme.

In September 2009, the Cabinet approved to enter into an agreement with the International Development Association of the World Bank to receive SDR 70.6 million for the implementation of this project.

The funds will be utilized to upgrade road systems in Jaffna (100kms), Ampara (100 kms), and Uva Province (150kms).

Rural Electrification Project - 8th Phase

The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Finance and Planning Minister to obtain Euro 57,855,430 from the Government of Iran for the implementation of the 8th phase of the Rural Electrification Project in Sri Lanka.

The Cabinet in addition approved in June this year to obtain USD 88,746,450 from the Export Development Bank of Iran.

Water Supply Project to Ampara

The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Finance and Planning Minister to enter into an agreement with the ANZ bank to obtain USD 105,190,000 for the implementation of a water supplying system to rural areas in the Ampara District.

President explains Recruitment, Transfers and Promotions

The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Finance and Planning Minister to halt recruitment, transfers and promotions in the state sector during the election period.

However, the President recommended that these measures could not be applied to essential services such as Health, which are required for the smooth functioning of the society at large.
