Survey on computer literacy of teachers

The Education Ministry has taken measures to carry out a survey next year on the literacy level of teachers in the area of IT technology.

Around 40,000 of the present teacher cadre of 222,000 have undergone the necessary training in IT last year while another 80 percent will undergo the same training next year.

A thorough knowledge of IT is compulsory for teachers to help themselves with classroom teaching. These classroom activities including the marking of attendance register, setting the timetable etc will be greatly facilitated if teachers have training in IT, Education Minister Susil Premjayanth said.
