Keeping the faith
My primary strategy was to set the political
direction for the humanitarian operation, set time targets, pick the
right people for the job at hand, provide the necessary funding and
other requisites to the Armed Forces - and above all, to have
confidence in their ability to eradicate this menace. I also believe
in monitoring the progress of operations on a regular basis. I knew
I could eradicate terrorism from our soil and create a peaceful
environment for our people.

Restoring long-term peace and stability
We must be conscious that we live in a world
beset by global challenges that dwarf the adversities that we care
called upon to encounter within our shores. Later this month, I will
attend the World Climate Conference in Denmark - a forum that has
great significance for the fate of the world as we know it. We are
also trying to recover from a global economic downturn that,
thankfully, we have been spared of suffering the worst effects.
Fighting poverty, disease, addressing global governance issues and
empowerment of marginalized and vulnerable groups are macro-level
issues that we have to deal with.
