SLIDA Convocation :
Administrators need communication skills

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama
yesterday said the demographic expansion has created a multitude of
challenges in all fields and it is through the type of administration
that these challenges could be overcome.
The Minister was speaking at the convocation of the Sri Lanka
Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) at the BMICH on Tuesday.
"Skills of communication and skills of carrying a large number of people
in your decision making process is very important".
"The Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) has
grown into an enterprise that creates ideas of excellence and culture of
total dedication", he said. He said the Government does not think that
the strength of public service is a burden to the country. "We have 1.2
million public servants and 0.5 million pensioners.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga said those who are
involved in the administration should have higher standards of
communication skills and they should be extremely good in writing. "You
need to be a communication expert in the discharge of your duties", he
said.
