No room for conspiracies - President
Chaminda Perera
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said the history has proved
that the treacherous forces who betrayed the country cannot create
heroes and only the patriotic forces who truly love their Motherland can
produce heroes.
The President was speaking at the presentation of Punya Bhoomi title
deeds to temples which have been built on the State lands, at the
Presidential Secretariat yesterday. Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya
Chapter Most Ven Udugama Sri Buddharakkhitha Thera, Anunayake of the
Amarapura Maha Nikaye Most Ven Dawuldena Gnanisssara Thera and the chief
incumbent of the Dharmapalaramaya Mount Lavinia Most Ven Kotugoda
Dhammawasa Thera were present.
“The members of the Maha Sangha and people in their thousands rallied
around the Government to bring down the Eelam flag in the country and no
body likes to see the Eelam flag in the country again. “Some elements
are trying to raise the Eelam flag through websites and SMS , but the
patriotic masses will not allow such conspiracies to take place in the
country, the President stressed.
The people of this country are ready to give proper answers if
anybody is trying to raise the Eelam flag in any part of the world. The
plots carried out in the country to satisfy the international
conspirators have very short lifetime, he stressed.
He added that those who were involved in erecting barbed wire fences
around Buddhist temples depriving religious freedom of people and
Buddhist monks are now preaching about Dasa Raja Dharmaya (Ten Royal
doctrines of Governance).
These elements forgot the Panchaseelaya at the ceremony to announce
these Dasa Raja Dharmaya to the country, the President said..
President Rajapaksa stressed the LTTE tried to deprive people’s
religious rights by erecting barbed wire fences around the Buddha statue
in the heart of Trincomalee town. “We felt ashamed when Buddhists could
not worship or reach the statute,” he said. But the elements who erected
barbed wire fences around the Buddhist temples can not feel them and we
will leave no room for such an era to dawn in the country, the President
stressed.
The President said the Government is dedicated to build the path to a
just society and the Government is prepared to face challenges without
fear.
The Maha Sangha are always in the forefront to protect and promote
people friendly policies. The blessings of the Maha Sangha helped to
free the country from terrorism, the President added.
The members of the Maha Sangha were a strength to us when we tore the
documents that betrayed the country to terrorists.
The Pirith Noola tied around the soldiers by the Maha Sangha gave
them unprecedented courage and fortitude in their fight against
terrorism. President Rajapaksa said the Maha Sangha did not leave the
temples or villages when they were attacked by terrorists. “The Maha
Sangha did not leave the temples nor the villages when the monks were
brutally assassinated by the LTTE in Arantalawa, he said.
The Maha Sangha in these areas did not get alms on time. Their lives
were miserable due to terrorism. The Government has implemented a
project to develop temples in such areas in honour of their service to
the society at difficult times.
Urban and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Lands
Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga, and Religious Affairs Minister Pandu
Bandaranayake were also present. |
