Nurses union will not join protests

The Public Services United Nurses Union said yesterday it would not join public protests or actions organized by some sections to hide their bankruptcy but if a genuine need for public protest arose the union would be in the forefront.

Union President Ven. Muruttettuwe Ananda Thera said in a press release that a number of salary anomalies in the nursing service were resolved after discussions held with Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara, on a directive given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and it was expected these issues would be remedied by the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry.

Therefore, the PSUNU does not approve of joining any trade union action or protest at this stage and would consider trade union action only if the Ministry failed to implement the agreement reached with the Treasury Secretary, he said in the press release.
