Suspected raggers granted bail after warning

Should ragging takes place once again at the university the Court will not be lenient to the offenders Kandy Magistrate Sumudhu Premachandra said yesterday granting bail to the 15 students allegedly involved in the ragging incident at the Peradeniya University.

Each of the suspects were granted personal bail in a sum of Rs. 200,000 each. They were also ordered to be present at the Peradeniya Police daily between 9.00 a.m. and 12 noon.

In addition they were ordered to be present every Monday between 10.00 a.m. to 12 noon before Deputy Disciplinary Officer of the University. Prior to granting bail the Magistrate summoned the parents of the students present in Court to warn them that should they (students) engage in ragging the Court would not adopt lenient policy in dealing with them.

The suspects were also produced for an identity parade yesterday morning prior to the granting of bail.
