Vote on account passed

The vote on account presented in Parliament by the Government was
passed with a majority of 47 votes yesterday.
One hundred and twenty-five members voted in favour while 78 members
voted against.
JHU, NFF and CWC voted in favour. UNP, JVP and TNA voted against.
The TNA asked for a division.
The debate continued for three days after the Vote-on-Account of Rs.
362,687,974,000 was presented by the Government on November 3. The
motion was moved to seek the approval of expenditure for general
services for the first four months commencing from January 1, 2010. The
Vote-on-Account was presented in place of an Appropriation Bill as the
Government is planning to hold a general election next year.
