All time record deposit from Samurdhi beneficiaries

Colombo district Samurdhi beneficiaries have deposited an all time record of over Rs. 682 million and invested Rs.723 million through the Samurdhi Bank approach, Colombo District Samurdhi Manager Srimathie Pathirana told the Daily News yesterday.

Over Rs. 1,990 million has been released as loans for 141,585 bank members at the 13 Samurdhi Parent Societies in the district, she added.

She said the number of Bank societies was 1,042 and 42 in the Colombo district.

Every divisional secretariat comprises one Samurdhi Parent Society. There are 13 such societies within the Colombo district, Pathirana said.

The Samurdhi Movement could be accessed through three main divisions - Rural Development, Subsidiary and Samurdhi Bank, she said.

The project aims at developing 3,060 villages through allocations provided by the Nation Building and Estate Infrastructure Development Ministry, she said.
