Computer: Tool or status symbol?
Sri Lanka has been a pioneer in using information
technology in our region. We have been heavy users of computers for
the past 40-50 years. The Government passed a special act in 1962
and invited IBM to establish their local branch to improve the data
processing function of the Insurance Corporation.

Era of hope for resettled families
Kanthamkulam area was cleared of landmines by
the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action and the water wells were also
cleaned and cleared by the Manthai West Divisional Secretariat and
labels were pasted on the walls. The scars of war were still visible
on the walls of damaged houses that have bullet riddled holes and on
the ground, the craters created by mortars were still visible.
