Japan to help boost local economy

Japan considers Sri Lanka as an attractive manufacturing station and focuses on promoting trade, investment and tourism to boost the country's economy. Japan would assist potential business partners to establish trade linkages.

The 15th Joint Meeting of the Sri Lanka-Japan and Japan-Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committees will be a platform to develop networks with the Japanese business delegation, said Embassy of Japan Deputy Head of Mission, Kaoru Shimazaki.

The 15th Joint Meeting will be held on November 18-20 in Sri Lanka and an over 30 member delegation is expected to visit the country representing the sectors such as automobile, tourism, tea, construction, ceramics, fertilizer, fibre and textile. Sri Lanka will target the US $ 41 billion electronic market in India with the Japanese know-how.

"We are looking at the Indian market with the help of Japanese technology," Sri Lanka-Japan and Japan-Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committees President Daya Weththasinghe said. SJ
