New IGP opens doors to public

IGP Mahinda Balasuriya said his doors are open for the public to meet
him on Fridays from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.

“All Police personnel who have problems in the Department also could
meet me on every second Mondays and last Mondays from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30
p.m,” Balasuriya told a press briefing at the IGP’s Chambers yesterday
afternoon.
“This is my first media briefing after assuming office, I will
arrange a media meeting within two weeks to highlight about my future
programs to maintain law and order in the country,” the IGP said.
IGP Mahinda Balasuriya and his family members were received at the
entrance to the Police Headquarters, Colombo yesterday by Senior DIG N.
K. Illangakoon and Police Headquarters DIG Asoka Wijetileke.
The new IGP after entering the Police Headquarters building offered
flowers at the Buddha statue at the Headquarters and later inspected a
parade, in his honour in the company of Senior DIG N.K. Illangakoon and
DIG Asoka Wijetileke.
Later there was an all religious ceremony at the IGP’s Chambers.
The IGP met all the senior and junior police officers at the ceremony
and wished them well.
Later, after the media briefing he also wished the media personnel
who were present to cover the event.
A public assistance centre will be opened for the public to make
their representations but not to make complaints. This centre will be
open 24 hours, IGP Balasuriya added.
The media’s assistance is very important to the Police force and any
constructive criticism will be welcomed IGP Balasuriya said.
At the end of the ceremony Kiribath and Kevum was served to all the
participants.
