Housing complex for slum dwellers completed
The construction activities of the housing complex containing 320
housing units at Dematagoda meant for slum dwellers who had lost their
houses in Slave Island have been completed and ownerships will be
granted to them before November 19 on which day the President completes
the fourth year in office, Urban Development and Sacred Area Development
Minister Dinesh Goonawardene said. Each housing unit consists of two
rooms and has cost Rs. two million.
The expenditure for the whole project is Rs. 640 million. This will
fulfil the promise given by the government to these affected people, the
Minister said. The aim of the Government under Mahinda Chinthanaya
concept is to provide decent houses to all slum and shanty dwellers in
the country.
“I have also made plans to construct 200 houses for slum dwellers in
Jaffna town and this will be inaugurated next month,” he said.
