President tells UPFA Southern Provincial
SP on fast track to progress
President Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that the
Southern Province as a whole was on the fast track to development
with mega projects and infrastructure facilities being implemented.
He instructed the newly elected Councillors to support these
endeavours and fulfill the aspirations of the people in the area by
working as a team.
Treasury debentures in lieu of lost property
The Government has decided to give treasury
debentures with a higher interest rate of 13.5 percent which matures
in two and half years to property owners whose properties were
acquired for road development and construction work instead of
granting monetary compensation.
Revision possible after six months - CB Governor
In the event that the European Council decides
not to extend the GSP plus facility to Sri Lanka a revision can take
place within a six month period, Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard

Peradeniya University Acting Vice-Chancellor
Prof. Anura Wickramasinghe said there is a clear connection between
the ongoing strike wave in the country and ragging incidents in
universities. “There seems to be a hidden agenda to bring
undergraduates onto the road after closing the universities.
However, the Peradeniya University will not be closed under any
circumstances,” the Professor said.
