Learn to serve the people through education
FROM ancient times our nation has a history of
humane traditions. All were respected irrespective of their race or
creed. Today we have united the country and we must bring up the
young generation in that human tradition so that they will respect
all races and religions.
Responding to natural disasters
In 1978 the cyclone hit Sri Lanka which
devastated the Eastern Province with property damage and life loss.
When flood and landslide events affected five districts in the
country in 2003, the people were taken by surprise as they were not
prepared.

Self-reliance to achieve the Century of Asia
The importance of self-reliance in the
resolution of issues facing countries of the developing countries,
especially in the Asian continent was stressed by President Mahinda
Rajapaksa when he addressed the eighth Ministerial Meeting of the
Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) in Colombo last Thursday.
