Muthuhettigama remanded

UPFA Galle district candidate Nishantha Muthuhettigama was remanded till September 22 (today) by Acting Galle Magistrate A.P.G. Sarachchandra when he was produced before him yesterday (21) by a special team of police officers.

The candidate was on bail granted by the Galle Magistrate last week for the alleged offence of making death threats to UPFA Galle District candidate Anarkali Akarsha. On the same day he was again arrested by the Galle police alleging him of damaging the election office of the actress candidate and unlawful conduct on the streets of the city of Galle.

A special police team which arrived yesterday (21) from Colombo carried out fresh investigations into the same matter and an adidtional charge of making certain defamatory remarks on the IGP and the Police Deparment in an interview with some print and electronic media and arrested him once again and interrogated him for over four hours.

During the interrogation all gates were closed for the public and specifically to the media.

The remanded candidate would be produced before the Galle Magistrate today (22).
