Over 80 Adhivasis participate at ‘Meepani Poojawa’

Leader of Veddha community Uruwarige Wanniala Aththo said that a large number of Adhivasi people attended this year’s (Meepani) Honey Bee Poojawa at the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy and added it was due to the peaceful atmosphere created in the country after the end of the three decade old war.

The first ‘Meepani Poojawa’ was held on the day the first Randoli Perahera paraded the streets on August 1 and 82 Adhivasis participated at this annual ritual in Kandy. This traditional practice was conducted since the days of Sinhala kings and it has been continuously held for the past 11 years after the death of my father, Uruwarige Aththo said.

Now the situation in the country has improved and our clan’s normal activities could be conducted without any problem, he said.

Diyawadane Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela provided all the facilities to enable the Adhivasis to witness the historic Randoli Perahera from the Mahamaluwa.
