The Railway Department will operate special trains for pilgrims attending the annual Pichcha Mal Pooja festival in Anuradhapura.

Commercial Superintendent of Sri Lanka Railways Vijaya Samarasinghe told the Daily News that this special train service will be available on July 25 and 26 for pilgrims attending this pooja from Colombo, Galle and Matara.

Since a large number of pilgrims from the various parts of the country are expected to attend the festival, the Railways Authority has arranged special trains that will leave Colombo Fort station at 6.40am and 7.30am to Anuradhapura on July 25. Another two train services from Colombo Fort will be operated on July 26 at 8.p.m. and 12.30 p.m. to Anuradhapura.

The Yal Devi will operate as usual on scheduled times to Anuradhapura. In addition, the Department will increase the number of compartments in the trains to Anuradhapura during the festival.
