Two ‘vendors’ arrested for theft

Two men posing as vegetable vendors were arrested by the Central District Crime Detection Special Unit in connection with housebreaking and robbery in the Kandy district. Police said the suspects had stolen jewelleries and Rs. 500,000 in their possession.

Police said these men were involved in several robberies in Digana, Menikhinna and Kandy areas. Police investigations also revealed that the suspects are drug addicts.

They had lived in Menikhinna for some time. On the pretext of vegetable vendors they used to visit houses before they carried out their plans, Special Crime Unit OIC A. Wijekoon.
