Uva Provincial Council election:

Minister predicts a clear majority

The UPFA aims at winning the Uva Provincial Council elections with a clear majority of over 70 percent and there is no one to challenge the victory of the UPFA, Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

He was addressing several meetings in Badulla over the weekend. At least 32 mass rallies were held during those two days organized by the district operation centre for Uva Provincial Council election campaign. A main rally was held at Town Hall, Haputale on Sunday.

Minister said, “We have a strong leadership under President Mahinda Rajapaksa. When I visit foreign countries, most foreigners highly appreciate our leadership. The President is the only leader who defeated terrorism. Analysts said the LTTE is one of the strong terrorist organizations in the world. Given the excellent leadership, our soldiers wiped out terrorism from our country.”

The Uva Provincial Council election is very important. Most people in this province believe that they should vote for the UPFA in the Uva Provincial Council election to show gratitude to the President, the Minister said.

“As a Government, we took several steps to develop the Uva Province. During the United National Party Government, they did not develop infrastructure facilities in the estate sector. But during the past three years our Government launched massive development projects to uplift the lives of Uva people.

We have spent over Rs. 10,000 million under the Uva Wellassa development project. Roads, bus stands, water and sanitation, power, health facilities are also developed under the Pubudammu Wellassa development program.
