Uva polls on August 8

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake yesterday set August 8 as the date for the elections to the Uva Provincial Council. The UNP and the JVP were among the major political parties who handed in their nomination lists yesterday.

Press Council re-established on COPE directive

The Press Council was re-established by the Government on the directive of Committee on Public Enterprise (COPE) appointed by Parliament, said Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena.

Over 6,000 dengue breeding places in Colombo

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry last month launched a massive program to combat dengue in 68 divisional secretariat divisions with the patronage of MOH offices, PHIs and Civil Defence Committees. Under this program, in Colombo district alone 23,100 houses were inspected and 6,138 of them were found to be mosquito breeding places.
