Sri Lanka to host Asian Junior Badminton C'ships

Sri Lanka will host the Asian Junior (Under-16) Badminton Championships which will be held from August 3 to 9 at St. Thomas' College Sports Complex, Mount Lavinia.

This will be the first time Sri Lanka will host a continental badminton championship. The decision to hold the tournament in Sri Lanka was decided after discussions between the Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge, President of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association Prof. Ranjith de Silva and members of the World Badminton Federation. Mt. Lavinia Hotel will be the official hotel for the championship.

One month long continental coaching camp for youth will also be conducted in Sri Lanka. This coaching camp will be held in July this year.

Thirty young players will be selected for this continental coaching camp. All Asian countries are being requested to nominate players for the camp.

The Sri Lankan Junior national squad is automatically included veteran foreign coaches will conduct the camp and training sessions.

This will also be the first occasion Sri Lanka will host an international badminton coaching camp.
